We are Chris and Lacey

We raise a small flock of Icelandics and gotlands in the Columbia River Gorge. Our mission is to raise animals well, tend the land, and offer quality products and services centered around humane and traditional methods.

Lacey started this work in 2015 with a flock of Icelandic sheep and a desire to steward the land and animals well, learning the skills and work that it would require to use all parts, honoring both the life and death of each sheep.

She has spent many seasons assisting and learning from shepherds of all walks of life with different goals and resources- which has helped her develop a deep understanding of the many ways in which land and animal and shepherd commune and connect.

Lacey's tanning journey began in 2014 and has become a life passion project.

Tanning hides led to learning humane slaughter and butchery. Lacey began teaching workshops in 2020 and has since been able to guide hundreds of individuals through the various processes of tanning, slaughter, butchery, lambing, and sheep raising.

Chris joined the Flock in 2024 and has taken a natural and keen interest in all things sheep. He brings mastery, ingenuity and precision to the processes and the work the work has blossomed into a joint effort that celebrates sheep in an expression of respect and care in every step.

Thus the Bucking Ewe came into being. Only content sheep kick up their heels.
